1. Grab / Xanh SM / Be (fastest & easiest)
Ride-hailing is the sweet spot for most travelers: a fixed in-app price (no haggling), air-con, and door-to-door. Expect 110,000–250,000 ₫ ($5–11) depending on traffic and demand.
Exit the international terminal and follow signs to the ride-hailing pick-up area. One catch: you need mobile internet to book. The easiest fix is to land already online with an Airalo eSIM — activate it before you fly and order your Grab the moment you clear customs, no SIM queue. Once booked, note the licence plate to find your driver. Travelling light? A Grab/Be motorbike (xe ôm) is even cheaper.

2. Official taxi
If you’d rather not use an app, take an official metered taxi — look for Vinasun (white) or Mai Linh (green) at the marked rank. Expect 150,000–260,000 ₫ with the airport surcharge and tolls. Make sure the meter is running, and have your hotel address written down or on your phone.
3. Private airport transfer (door-to-door)
For groups, families, or arriving exhausted after a long-haul flight, a pre-booked private car is the lowest-stress option: a driver meets you in Arrivals with your name, helps with bags, and takes you straight to your hotel for a fixed price (from around $22–25). Book one on Klook or 12Go.
4. Airport Bus 109 (tourist-friendly)
The best public option for backpackers: an air-conditioned bus with English signage. Fare is 15,000 ₫ (~$0.60, cash), running roughly 05:30–01:00, every 15–20 minutes. It heads to Ben Thanh Market, the Pham Ngu Lao backpacker area and Saigon Bus Station (23/9 Park). Note that Bus 109 now serves the new Terminal 3 — from the international terminal (T2) you may need the free shuttle to reach it (see below).
5. Public Bus 152 (cheapest)
At 5,000 ₫ (~$0.20, plus a small fee for big luggage), Bus 152 is unbeatable for value. It runs about 05:00–22:00, every 12–20 minutes, takes ~55 minutes with more stops, and is cash only — withdraw đồng at an airport ATM first (here’s where to withdraw without ATM fees). It’s popular with locals and gets crowded, so it’s not ideal with bulky bags.
⚠️ Heads-up: the old Bus #49 is suspended and no longer serves the airport, so don’t wait for it — use Bus 109 or 152 instead.
Terminal 3: what’s changed
Tan Son Nhat opened its brand-new Terminal 3 (T3) in 2025, and it now handles most domestic flights (Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet and others), while the older Terminal 2 stays international and Terminal 1 handles the remaining domestic services. A few things to know:
- T3 is a separate building. If you’re connecting between an international arrival (T2) and a domestic departure (T3) — or vice versa — use the free shuttle bus between terminals and leave at least 2–3 hours for the transfer.
- Bus 109 departs from T3, so coming off an international flight at T2, you’ll take the shuttle to T3 to catch it.
- For a hassle-free connection with luggage, a Grab or short taxi hop between terminals is quick and cheap.
Getting back to the airport
- Buses: catch Bus 152 or 109 at Ben Thanh (Ham Nghi Street) or Saigon Bus Station (next to 23/9 Park), direction “Sân Bay” (airport).
- Grab / taxi: book ahead in the app; if hailing on the street, confirm the meter is on or agree the fare first.
Leave a buffer for traffic — Saigon rush hour (7–9 AM, 5–7 PM) can double your travel time.
